After getting positive feedback to the change, it has now been made official. Oldskool music has become Realtime Extreme Music: http://www.assembly.org/summer08/compos/realtime/extreme#music Oldskool graphics has become Realtime Extreme Graphics: http://www.assembly.org/summer08/compos/realtime/extreme#graphics Go create! ;-) From blueberry at loonies.dk Fri Jun 20 21:00:00 2008 From: blueberry at loonies.dk (Blueberry) Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2008 20:00:00 +0200 Subject: [ASM scene] Extreme graphics & music In-Reply-To: <4850C394.2010203@assembly.org> References: <4850C394.2010203@assembly.org> Message-ID: <1213984800.485bf0203f83d@webmail.daimi.au.dk> Citat Jussi Laakkonen : > Hi, > > as hinted earlier, we wanted to expand the oldskool music and > graphics compo to support executables on modern platforms. Also, I would not expect oldskool musicians to be happy to compete on equal size terms against big, fancy softsynths on modern platforms. How about using the same size difference in the exe music compo as in the exe graphics compo: 4k for newskool, 40k for oldskool? This will make the newskool entries far more interesting, and it will make oldskool musicians feel they are not being completely scrapped. And it will introduce some nice symmetry. :) Not that size and platform restrictions are comparable in any way, but in the absence of space in the schedule for more compos, I think it would be a better compromise. You will end up comparing apples to oranges rather than grapes to watermelons... -Aske From jussi.laakkonen at assembly.org Mon Jun 23 21:40:44 2008 From: jussi.laakkonen at assembly.org (Jussi Laakkonen) Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2008 21:40:44 +0300 Subject: [ASM scene] Kill all lights and audio precompo Message-ID: <485FEE2C.5060406@assembly.org> Hi, before any compo starts at ASM, we require the participants to close down their monitors, lights and turn down any audio. To inform them of this we use humorous (in most cases =)) videos that we call "Kill all lights and audio". We are now looking for new videos for ASMS08 and future parties. If you are interested in getting your production played before compos start, here's your chance to get it on the big screen. I hope your entries are starting to shape up for what is going to be great party once for the 17th time! We have a great luck with sponsors, so the total prize amount this year is at least as much as last year (?39 000), if not more (yeah, and I promise, no fingerprint scanners ;-)). Anyway, we got a awesome lineup for the ARTtech seminars featuring two hot movies: Stone's War (zombies in WWII!) and Iron Sky (nazis on the moon!). Great stuff on programming/game development: 3 hour Cell programming tutorial, mesh-based deformation, Crayon Physics and lots more. The outreach work continues with Scenebooth in residence and two seminars (Demoscene explained and Demoprogramming for Beginners). If you need a bit more advanced stuff, check out Gargaj's XNA session too. All the details (save for the schedule which will appear later) are at: http://www.assembly.org/summer08/seminars/ Hope to see many of you at ASM! -- Best regards, Mr. Jussi Laakkonen (a.k.a Abyss // ASSEMBLY Organizing & FC) partner, co-founder ASSEMBLY Organizing Ltd - http://www.assembly.org cellular: +358-40-582 3959 - snailmail: PL 160, 00381 Helsinki, Finland
