CALL FOR ART AND TECHNOLOGY - Alternative Party 2009 Exhibition

Alternative Party invites artists and collectors to offer their art, 
technology and workshops to the art and technology exhibition at the 
Alternative Party 2009. The event will take place at the Cable Factory 
in Helsinki from 23th to 25th of October 2009.

The submission deadline is on 16th August! Submit your work before 4th 
of August if you want a possibility that your work will be approved and 
released in the press release on 21th of August. The rest of the 
approved works will be announced on 1st of October.


The Alternative Party in a nutshell

The Alternative Party is a demoparty and a festival of digital culture. 
It gathers together creative programmers, visualists, musicians, 
designers, researchers and passionate enthusiasts. The number of 
visitors this year is estimated to be over 1000.

We offer world-beating activities like music shows, keynote talks, 
demoscene competitions, a computer exhibition, seminars, workshops and 
an arts exhibition. In addition, the event serves as a welcoming meeting 
place for people in the domain and encourages its attendees to think 
creatively and open-mindedly. More info about the programme:

The event is organized by the Alternative Party ry. It's non-profit and 
run by volunteers. The event has been organized since 1998.


Works we are looking for

Both new and already published works and workshops, especially ones with 
the following themes and categories, but are not limited to:

      * Multimedia
      * Visual, audial and audio-visual pieces that make use of computers
        and digital technology
      * Interactive, statical, online and offline works
      * Computer or techonology that is rare, somehow unbelievable or
        extremely lovely - like computers from 80's.
      * Any kind of installations and visual artworks related to this years
        theme cyberpunk.
      * Workshops
      * Something else

The theme of the event is cyberpunk, but works not related to the theme 
are also welcome.

Timetable

25th February 2009     The call is announced
1st April 2009             The Submit page will be open
4th August 2009     Deadline: Press release. One of the works
                          submitted by this date will be released to press
                          on 21st of August during the Night of the Arts
                          event in Helsinki. The published work will be
                          automatically approved for the exhibition.
16th August 2009     Deadline: submitting your work for the exhibition.
7th September 2009     Acceptance announcement by email to submitters.
13th September 2009     Deadline for Exhibition catalogue where all works
                          are presented.
1st October 2009     The approved works are announced at www.altparty.org.
22nd October 2009     Building the exhibition at the Cable Factory, 
Helsinki.
23rd-25th October 2009  Alternative Party 2009, the Cable Factory, Helsinki.
25th October 2009     Dismantling the exhibition.


The benefits you get if your work is chosen for the exhibition

You will get a free entrance ticket to the event. No fees (related to 
jurying or anything else) are charged from the participants. 
Unfortunately, Alternative Party can not pay your travel or other costs.

The event will offer visibility for your artwork and collections - and a 
chance to network with other professional people in the field of 
technology and arts.

You are allowed to sell your art and other items at the event as long as 
the selling is in good taste and not intrusive towards our guests. You 
are not allowed to remove your exhibits from the exhibition before the 
event has ended even if they are sold.


The exhibition

We offer floor, table or wall space for your work, electricity and an 
Internet (WLAN) connection in the exhibition area.

We hope that you provide all the equipment you need for presenting your 
work unless agreed otherwise. We will be pleased to help you if you need 
any help in presenting your work.

We don't insure the artworks or other equipment you bring to the event 
against theft or breaking.

You will be responsible for having the rights needed for the 
presentation for your work of art and also for paying all the possible 
compensations for the third party.


Entering your work for the exhibition

Submission site will be opened at www.altparty.org on 1st April.

KUTSU TAITEELLE JA TEKNIIKALLE - Alternative Party 2009 -näyttely

Alternative Party kutsuu taiteilijoita ja keräilijöitä tarjoamaan 
taidetta, teknologiaa ja työpajoja Alternative Party 2009 -tapahtuman 
taide- ja teknologianäyttelyyn, joka järjestetään Kaapelitehtaalla 
Helsingissä 23.-25. lokakuuta 2009.

Deadline on elokuun 16. päivä! Yksi 4.8. mennessä ilmoitetuista töistä 
esitellään Taiteiden yönä 21.8. julkaistavassa lehdistötiedotteessamme 
ja hyväksytään automaattisesti näyttelyyn. Ilmoitus muista 
hyväksynnöistä julkaistaan viimeistään 1.10.


Alternative Party 2009 lyhyesti

Alternative Party on demoparty ja digitaalisen kulttuurin festivaali, 
joka kokoaa yhteen luovat digikulttuurin liekinkantajat, kuten 
ohjelmoijat, visualistit, muusikot, suunnittelijat, tutkijat ja 
intohimoiset harrastajat. Tapahtumaan odotetaan yli 1000 kävijää.

Tapahtumassa on kansainvälisesti korkeatasoista ja mielenkiintoista 
ohjelmaa, kuten musiikkiesityksiä, keynote-esitelmiä, 
demoscene-kilpailuja, tietokonenäyttely, seminaareja, työpajoja ja 
taidenäyttely. Lisäksi tapahtuma toimii lämminhenkisenä 
kohtaamispaikkana alan ihmisille sekä kannustaa luovuuteen ja

Tapahtuman järjestää voittoa tavoittelemattomasti, vapaaehtoisvoimin 
Alternative Party ry. Tapahtuma on järjestetty vuodesta 1998 lähtien.


Haettavat teokset

Haun kohteena ovat uudet ja aiemmin esitetyt teokset ja työpajat 
erityisesti seuraavista teemoista ja kategorioista mutta sulkematta pois 
muita vaihtoehtoja:

      * multimedia
      * tietokoneita ja digitaalisia tekniikoita hyödyntävät visuaaliset,
        audiaaliset ja audiovisuaaliset teokset ja performanssit
      * interaktiiviset, staattiset, online- ja offline-teokset
      * tietokoneet tai teknologiat jotka ovat jotenkin harvinaisia,
        uskomattomia tai rakkaita, kuten tietokoneet 80-luvulta.
      * cyberpunk-aiheeseen liittyvä tilataide ja kuvataide
      * työpajat
      * jotain muuta

Tapahtuman teema on cyberpunk, mutta myös teemaan liittymättömiä töitä 
otetaan vastaan.


Aikataulu

25.2.2009     Kutsu julkaistiin.
1.4.2009     Töiden ilmoittamissivu avataan.
4.8.2009     Deadline: Tähän mennessä lähetetyistä töistä yksi työ
                  esitellään lehdistötiedotteessa 21.8.2009 Taiteiden yön
                  yhteydessä ja tulee varmasti näyttelyyn.
16.8.2009     Deadline: työn ilmoittaminen.
7.9.2009     Sähköposti-ilmoitus osallistujille työn hyväksymisestä
                  näyttelyyn.
13.9.2009     Deadline: näyttelyluetteloon tiedot ja kuva omasta
                  teoksesta.
1.10. 2009     Näyttelyosallistujien julkaisu www.altparty.org:ssa
22.10.2009     Näyttelyn rakennus, Kaapelitehdas, Helsinki.
23.-25.10.2009     Alternative Party 2009, Kaapelitehdas, Helsinki.
25.10.2009     Näyttelyn purku.


Näyttelyyn valittaville tarjottavat edut

Näyttelyyn hyväksyttyjen teosten tekijöille tarjotaan vapaa sisäänpääsy 
tapahtumaan. Osallistumisesta ei veloiteta jurytys- tai muita maksuja. 
Alternative Party ei valitettavasti pysty korvaamaan matka- tai muita 
kustannuksiasi.

Tapahtuma tarjoaa näkyvyyttä teoksille sekä otollisen tilaisuuden 
verkostoitua muiden taiteen ja tekniikan osaajien kanssa.

Teosten myyminen tapahtumassa on sallittua, kunhan se toteutetaan hyvän 
maun mukaan ja tunkeilematta. Teoksia ei saa poistaa näytteiltä ennen 
tapahtuman päättymistä vaikka teos olisi myyty.


Teoksen esittäminen

Näyttelyalueella on käytettävissäsi lattia-, pöytä- tai seinäpinta-alaa, 
sähköä ja Internet-yhteys (WLAN).

Teoksen esittäjän toivotaan hankkivan kaikki teoksen esittämiseen 
liittyvät välineet ellei toisin sovita. Autamme mielellämme, mikäli 
tarvitset apua teoksen esittämiseen liittyen.

Tapahtuma ei vakuuta teoksia tai teoksen tekijöiden tapahtumaan tuomia 
laitteita varkauden tai rikkoontumisen varalta.

Teoksen tekijä vastaa siitä, että hänellä on teoksen esittämiseen 
tarvittavat oikeudet sekä mahdollisesti tarvittavista esityskorvauksista 
kolmansille osapuolille.
