Finding the limits of oldskool is part of the compo. We have set a year limit, which is the end of 1991 and it is up to you guys to find what is the best hw for that time and present some kind of proof behind your reasoning. Naturally all proof can be faked and I'm not a forensics expert, neither do I have the wish to be one. Having been around in the scene for quite some time, I am fully aware that cheating and faking is preferred to an honest competition. I have limited resources with which to verify your claims, so if it seems plausible enough, the hardware is let in. Brite, you have been a long time contributor and are quite aware of the problems related to the oldskool competition at Assembly. "Leave it alone" is not an acceptable hint here, because basically it has been left alone.. The time limit rule is quite clear. If someone (Eemu) took the time to make a word document a few pages long, with reasoning behind his findings about what was the best PC in the end of 1991, then what do you know, I have no option but to let that hw compete. If you had a different idea what was best in 1991, you can of course contest Bera's findings with alternate proof. The document is available upon request. I'm digging your trolling hook from my cheek as I type, I saw what you did there, make no mistake. However since I want this to be a proper discussion, I felt the need to actually discuss it instead of shooting back some snide one-liner. -- Ville Jouppi Sysadmin without a cause Mail: vjouppi at sci.fi Web: http://jope.fi/ IRCNet: Jope From phalin at abo.fi Fri Jun 4 10:45:23 2010 From: phalin at abo.fi (Peter Halin UPR) Date: Fri, 4 Jun 2010 10:45:23 +0300 (EEST) Subject: [ASM scene] Updated compo rules for ASSEMBLY Summer 2010 In-Reply-To: References: <4C07CCC2.1030004@assembly.org> Message-ID: > Well when the Byterapers guys weaseled the GUS in, they at least had the > reason that it was for sale as a PC ISA card in 1991. > If you had a different idea what was best in 1991, you can of course contest > Bera's findings with alternate proof. But yeah, you're indeed right, I wasn't being completely serious with my question about the 040 ;) / Britelite From Jussi.Laakkonen at assembly.org Wed Jun 30 09:18:08 2010 From: Jussi.Laakkonen at assembly.org (Jussi Laakkonen) Date: Wed, 30 Jun 2010 09:18:08 +0300 Subject: [ASM scene] Spanish + Seminar = free flights to ASM! Message-ID: <4C2AE1A0.3060701@assembly.org> Hi, we are working with the Spanish Embassy here in Finland and they've agreed to sponsor the travel expenses for 1-2 speakers to ASSEMBLY seminars. I've reached out to a few folks I knew but unfortunately the timings didn't quite work out. So if you want to bring a bit of the Spanish demoscene to ASM and have an interesting topic to share in our seminars OR if you have a tip about someone we should definitely get from Spain, please drop me an email! -- Jussi Laakkonen partner, co-founder ASSEMBLY Organizing Abyss // ASMORG & FC www.assembly.org mobile +358-40-582 3959 mail PL 160, 00381 Helsinki, Finland
